The majority of people, certainly those living in western societies take an awful lot for granted. Perhaps if there is anything good to come out of the currently world monetary concerns it is that we can all re-look at our life styles and reconsider what is really important and what is in fact just a  luxury.

MeKnows is all about sharing information, and useful tips with one another. Much of the advice you can find on the site if used positively could save you some cash, how you ask? well read on.

Many people are considering ways to cut their household bills, to live a little cleaner, and a little simpler. In order to do this, we need to learn some new skills, it might be that learning how to grow the best tomatoes yourself.  You might try learning how to change your cars brake pads, or some other technical type tasks. Either way you can turn the current financial climate into a positive and change somethings about your life that you always new you should, but just needed some encouragement!

If anyone has any great tips they want to share, feel free to register on the main site and tell the world how to do something useful!

How to promote your website on MeKnows http://blog.meknows.com/internet/how-to-promote-your-website-on-meknows/ http://blog.meknows.com/internet/how-to-promote-your-website-on-meknows/#comments Wed, 24 Jun 2009 12:56:59 +0000 Admin http://blog.meknows.com/?p=61 We often get questions from webmasters like “I have a website, but nobody ever visits it, why?” well, here’s the deal. Creating a website is no different from opening a shop on the highstreet. First you need to rent a shop, then you need to fill it with products.  You will need to open the shutters and tell the world right? Then as the word slowly gets out and if your product or service is good enough, needed and competitive you will get customers to your shop right?

A website is no different, you need to rent a domain and setup the site, fill it will good unique content, but often this is where webmasters, especially new ones think it end, and that visitors will magically appear from nowhere. Well, this couldn’t be further from the truth, you will need to go out onto the internet and tell the world about your site. There are of course companies that will do this for you, there are also lots and lots of different ways to achieve this.

A really great way to get the ball rolling is to submit a uniquely written article to any number of article sites available on the net. When you post these articles, you will usually have an opportunity to add a “link” back to your site in the resources box. The resources section is your little area to promote your website, you can add a link so visitors can find your site and visit. There is also another benefit and this is that those links are beneficial to your site in the search engines like Google, get enough of these “links” and you will find visitors pouring to your site from the search engines.

There is though something better than grabbing lots of resource box links, and this is to have the links buried right in the main part of the text of your article, Search engines LOVE this and you will generally need less of these links, which means less work for you. So where do you go to get links like this? Well there are a number of sites that allow this, a couple of well known sites like Squidoo and Hubpages are great for just this purpose. At MeKnows, we decided to offer the same great links right in your text, but the sites concept means, you don’t need to write a huge article, all you actually need to do is share a little gem of knowledge. This is something everyone can do easily, as not everyone can write clever well contructed articles, but everyone knows how to do something useful right?

Here are some examples of our users sharing a little gem of their wisdom with our users, meanwhile grabbing a couple of great links back to their own websites!

Contacts scrapping the latest spam? http://blog.meknows.com/internet/contacts-scrapping-the-latest-spam/ http://blog.meknows.com/internet/contacts-scrapping-the-latest-spam/#comments Mon, 22 Jun 2009 13:35:11 +0000 Admin http://blog.meknows.com/?p=55 With the explosion in large social networking sites around the globe, comes ever increasing competition for membership. Competition always ramps up with tactics owners will go to in order to get you to join their ranks of millions. This has led to the latest tactic of “contacts scrapping”.

So what is contact scrapping? Well basically you will from time to time get an email from what you think is one of your friends, usually asking you to sign up to view some pictures that “they really want you to see”. Well the problem is that this email typically hasn’t been sent by your friend, but rather by a social site that has accessed your friends email contacts list and sent out an email “on their behalf”. It’s important to note here, that we are not for one moment suggesting that this is in anyway an illegal act, but merely that when and of you do sign up to a social network it’s important to read the terms and conditions carefully before you give them your email address and password.

How it works it simple, once you agree to their term and conditions and hand over your email address and password, the site automatically accesses your contacts list and sends an email inviting your friends to join you on their network. As your friends sign up they are subject to the same system, meaning the site mails out to huge quanitities of people in a very short space of time. Whilst to many people this might be fine and ok, others will see it as not only an invasion of privacy, but misleading and even embarrasing, so you have been warned think carefully before you sign up to anything, especially off the back of an email. A common sense approach to everything on the internet is recommended if you want to learn more about How to check if an email is a fraud or How to Protect your Computer from Internet Security Threats visit the main site.

MeKnows supports DoFollow links! http://blog.meknows.com/announcements/dofollow-links/ http://blog.meknows.com/announcements/dofollow-links/#comments Mon, 22 Jun 2009 12:47:47 +0000 Admin http://blog.meknows.com/?p=51 MeKnows is a big supporter of DoFollow links, but what exactly is a DoFollow link and how does it help your website? The term DoFollow is an internet slang term used to describe a link to a webpage that is not using the html NoFollow tag. You are probably wondering what the heck i just said, well basically speaking, NoFollow links are not  good news and search engines tend to ignore them, DoFollow links are great news and will pass on some useful link juice to the site they are pointed to!

So as somebody looking to promote their websites, you should be very keen to find DoFollow links, and they are nowadays getting harder and harder to find, but why? Well many websites used to attract alot of spam posts and comments from visitors only interested in grabing easy links back to their own sites. The NoFollow tags have been viewed by many webmasters as a great way to keep spammers off their sites, as the links available would be of little or no value. So as a result of the implementation of the NoFollow tags link building has become much tougher, traditional sites to grab some free links from are now often NoFollow, and this makes link building tougher for normal people as well as pure spammers.

MeKnows beleives that DoFollow is still the way to go, and we want to give our authors some fair incentives to create great original how to guides for our site. In exchange, we WANT to promote their sites by allowing several DOFollow links to be included in their guides. We believe that users who have the sharing mindset deserve some free promotion in return. We tend not to worry too much about spammers, our admins work to ensure they get limited or no exposure, and we hope they will change their ways and begin honestly contributing to the MeKnows community in exchange for some link love.

So if you are looking for some DoFollow links right on your topic, then head over to the main site at MeKnows.com, write a useful how to guide on your favorite topic and place up to two links right in the text.

How to … site update http://blog.meknows.com/announcements/how-to-site-update/ http://blog.meknows.com/announcements/how-to-site-update/#comments Sat, 21 Feb 2009 09:18:44 +0000 Admin http://blog.meknows.com/?p=31 Development work is continuing at high speed behind the scenes. The script originally selected to be the basis for the main site has proven to be somewhat lightwieght and the decision was taken during the week to dump it in favour of a much more robust option. The dev team deserve a huge pat on the back as the new script was lacking many features that was required for the site and they have done a fantastic job of adding these and more!

Currently the admins are testing the new site and will soon hopefully be able to make it live. Then comes the task of generating new accounts for the 40 or so members we have, which in many ways is amazing as we have not yet officially launched the site, so thanks to all the members who signed up already!

Once all is live, tested, and ready for action we will be embarking on some marketing and publicity activity, so please tell your friends, we would like to get the site really working and offering a great free resource for people all over the world!

How to be just like 007? http://blog.meknows.com/tech/how-to-be-just-like-007/ http://blog.meknows.com/tech/how-to-be-just-like-007/#comments Wed, 07 Jan 2009 22:10:42 +0000 Admin http://blog.meknows.com/?p=22 Tech and gadget freaks are about to have all their dreams come true, well perhaps not quite, but another of those James Bond style gadgets is finally set to be a reality. Coming to an electronics store this summer, so we are told, will be the latest offering from Korean electronics firm LG, the phone watch.

Thats right, you heard it straight, a phone watch, but not some half assed effort, this watch will contain a fully featured 3G phone, video capability, mp3 player, and of course, a watch. If these lives up to growing expectation it might well knock Apples iphone right out of the limelight!

So keep your eyes peeled, geeks everywhere are going to be dressing up in their best 007 clothes and heading out to the streets all the while making a video call to their Mummy on their  new watch.

How to apply common sense to just about anything … http://blog.meknows.com/life/how-to-apply-common-sense-to-just-about-anything/ http://blog.meknows.com/life/how-to-apply-common-sense-to-just-about-anything/#comments Sat, 03 Jan 2009 18:11:58 +0000 Admin http://blog.meknows.com/?p=14

There is no doubt in my mind that as time ticks by the world is becoming a crazier place in so many ways. Whilst there has always been poverty, wars and disease we are seeing new often higher tech issues that are impacting on our lives and not in a good way. Unlike the high profile issues I have highlighted, the new attacks on our live styles and well being come hidden under the banner of progress.

I bet there are few people in the western world now, that haven’t had reason to get annoyed with an automated phone system, or a piece of local government red tape that they suddenly find impacting on their lives. So why is that big companies think their customers are happy lost in a telephonic abyss when all they want to do is discuss their issue with another human, why is it local government bury even the simplest of tasks under a mountain of red tape? The answer is a total lack of common sense.

Whilst we could argue for literally hours on when and why exactly common sense is draining from humanity, and indeed how to go about repairing the damage cause, the bottom line is, it’s happening. There is though a way back we can all collectively work on, a reintroduction of common sense to our society, it’s simple really, we all just need to pause for a moment and think things through before taking action.

So no matter what your job, or your standing in life, before you take action of any sort, just pause for a moment, think things through, consider what results your actions might have. If we all did this more often than not, there is no doubt in my mind, the world would be a better place.
